Oh hello, August! I didn’t see you there. Is it back to school season already? I love school supplies. There. I said it. I also love Kate Spade. (But you already knew that, didn’t you?) Kate Spade is one of my all-time favorite brands. They really know how to make ordinary objects look fancy, but fortunately, so do I!
Now, as much as I love having things with the Kate Spade logo on them, I’m not about to spend $20 on pencils. I grabbed a bunch of school supplies the other day at the dollar store and decided I would give them a little upgrade. Many of these are super easy and very budget friendly, so I have confidence that you can do this too!
Here are some of the things I used in this project:
I found a basic black folder at the dollar store for 75¢. I used some painters tape I had to create some stripes. Also, can you believe I got this spray paint for $1.50 from the dollar store? I have to admit that I was surprised at the quality.
After I sprayed the folder down, let it dry completely, and peeled off the tape, it was time to spruce up the folder a bit. I used this gold paint pen I grabbed from the craft store to write “hustle” on the folder.I love how the gold turned out with the black and white stripes.
I got this composition notebook and sprayed down the cover with white spray paint. After it was dry, I decided to paint some green leaves on the front.
I found this pack of pencils at the dollar store for $1 and used some acrylic paint I already had to decorate them. I painted the metal gold and the wood white. I used painters tape to make stripes on one pencil, and used the eraser from another pencil to create black and gold polka dots.
I used some gold spray paint on these jumbo paper clips and painted the little circle stickers gold with some acrylic paint. This project was so much fun and I love how everything ties together.
I hope your summer is treating you well and that you can find time to do little things that make you happy. Thanks for swinging by! If you’ll excuse me, I’m going to use the money I saved by not buying Kate Spade school supplies and go buy my textbooks for the upcoming fall semester!
